    Cowboy Kees by Sabine Rovers

Netherlands based photographer Sabine Rovers captures a seemingly out of place but graciously charming cowboy character in a place you would not expect him, Holland. “I had never seen a cowboy in Holland before and wondered who this man was,” Rovers explains. “It was only after five years that I found out why Kees had ended up here. His reclusive lifestyle, simple and surrounded by nature, was not so much out of idealism, but more out of necessity. When at some point Kees had lost nearly everything dear to him in his life, he realized that the most basic and essential thing we have here on earth couldn’t be taken…

A Small Pool of White Light by Photographer Jesse Boyd-Reid

“I follow the ebb and flow of my family’s passage through life by photographing scenes of intimacy, belief, ceremony and stillness that I have been permitted to document (and at times restage) in an effort to understand the range of experiences that make up a human life. In this process I am both participant and observer, experiencing and reflecting. Documenting the near and familiar relies on the idea of life as art, and through this line of enquiry my work raises questions about queerness, connection and family. Balancing Act by Artist Martine Johanna

“Her heroines visibly grapple with the weight and tension of the expectations that society has placed on them. The figures’ internal dilemmas, made visible through concentrated facial expressions and calculated postures, spill into their surroundings, manifesting in rainbows, fractured and hemorrhaging color fields, and even levitating objects.”

    Illustrations by Katie Evans

“I search for meaning, albeit invented through my drawings; the resting of a chin on a shelf, the slow swinging of a bell on a string, the light reflecting through the glass of a salt shaker. Alone these things are trivial, a mere happening in a private space. I impart meaning to them while drawing them over an extended period of time, often months. I declare these things are purposeful with every hour spent scratching pencil to paper, my concentration and movements becoming a ritual in and of itself.” – Katie Evans

“Finding A Way” by Artist Eric Louie

“Something celebratory thrives within each painting for myself. The work combines elements of still life, abstraction and figuration to create something that dwells in a middle ground. Along with my larger works are a new series of small paintings touching on notions of the monolith, symmetry/asymmetry & the Vanitas. Some paintings allude to totemic elements such as serpents or butterflies to faces. Many of the pieces were derived from breaking down elements of my larger works and mirroring them like a Rorschach test. The symmetry created something recognizable which is interesting. They take on a symbolic approach hitting on notions of semiotics and iconography. I feel like each of the…
