The world of fashion and modeling is easily seen as the most self damaging, judgmental and malicious. For example the recent interview about the A&F image with the CEO of Aberbrombie & Fitch, Mike Jeffries himself stated:
“It’s almost everything. That’s why we hire good-looking people in our stores. Because good-looking people attract other good-looking people, and we want to market to cool, good-looking people. We don’t market to anyone other than that,”
“In every school there are the cool and popular kids, and then there are the not-so-cool kids,” he told the site. “Candidly, we go after the cool kids. We go after the attractive all-American kid with a great attitude and a lot of friends. A lot of people don’t belong [in our clothes], and they can’t belong. Are we exclusionary? Absolutely.”
Seriously? But we have to remember there always will be a group of extremes in every corporation or group of people.
Now lets take a look at the good extreme.
Jillian Mercado is known online as a fashion blogger and also the editor of We The Urban
So Jillian already being in touch with the fashion world saw an opportunity, when the well known and popular clothing line company Diesel stated they were looking for models who had great style, were hip, and represented a variety of culture for an upcoming campaign.
So Jillian already being in touch with the fashion world saw an opportunity, when the well known and popular clothing line company Diesel stated they were looking for models who had great style, were hip, and represented a variety of culture for an upcoming campaign.
She decided to submit photographs of herself and ended up receiving a response from the company saying “We are kind of interested in having you in the campaign.”
Jillian ended up being chosen for the Diesel campaign along with other models. She went to work with the famous art director Nicola Formichetti. She wasn’t sure if or when the campiang would finally launch until she was tagged on instagram by Nicola Formichetti. The campiang is officially up and running and will be in the Diesel stores.
“You all have no idea how speechless I am right now…. Thank you for giving me a chance of a lifetime and believing in me. This is beyond everything. You guys that’s me!!”
