Italian Gangsters by Peter Lindbergh
A noir fantasy rooted in attitude rather than excess, Italian Gangsters brings together some of fashion’s most striking faces under the unmistakable eye of Peter Lindbergh. Shot for Vogue Italia’s May 2015 issue, the editorial features Sasha Pivovarova, Guinevere Van Seenus, Steffy Argelich, and Kirsten Owen in a cinematic reimagining of classic Italian gangster style.
The mood is moody, restrained, and deeply glamorous. Tailored suits, sharp coats, and masculine silhouettes dominate the story, worn with a nonchalant confidence that feels effortless rather than styled to death. These women are not playing characters so much as inhabiting a state of mind. Cool, detached, and quietly powerful. The styling by Clare Richardson leans into simplicity, allowing structure and attitude to do most of the talking.
Lindbergh’s signature black and white photography strips everything back to essentials. Texture, shadow, and expression take center stage. Each model brings her own energy to the frame, from Pivovarova’s icy intensity to Van Seenus’ raw edge. The images feel timeless, as if pulled from a forgotten film still rather than a contemporary fashion magazine.
Hair by Duffy remains unfussy and lived in, reinforcing the editorial’s grounded elegance. Nothing feels overly polished, and that restraint is exactly what gives the story its strength.
Italian Gangsters is fashion storytelling at its most confident. Minimal, atmospheric, and unapologetically strong, it proves that glamour does not need sparkle to leave a lasting impression.
