Moschino Menswear S/S 2016: Nascar Meets Royal Victorian
Jeremy Scott does not design quietly. For Moschino Menswear Spring Summer 2016, he staged a collision no one saw coming. Nascar speed collided with Royal Victorian opulence. The result was loud, theatrical, and unapologetically fun.
It should not make sense. That is precisely why it works.
Full Throttle Fantasy
Racing references came in fast. Logos, bold graphics, high octane color blocking. The silhouettes carried the energy of the track. Lean. Flashy. Built for spectacle rather than subtlety.
Then came the Victorian twist. Brocade details. Regal tailoring. Flourishes that felt plucked from a royal portrait and dropped onto a pit crew uniform. It was aristocracy with a sponsorship deal.
The clash was intentional. Jeremy Scott thrives in tension. Street meets satire. History meets pop culture. Refinement meets rebellion.
The Art of Not Overthinking
Trying to intellectualize every look would slow you down. This collection was about impact. The kind that hits before your brain has time to categorize it.
There was humor stitched into the seams. A wink in every exaggerated proportion. Moschino has always embraced camp, and this season leaned in fully. The loudness was the point. The playfulness was the luxury.
And somehow, beneath the spectacle, the tailoring still held up. Structured coats. Crisp lines. Pieces that, stripped of their theatrics, revealed real craftsmanship.
Why It Worked
Because it committed. Half measures would have made it chaotic. Instead, it felt like a fully realized fantasy world. One where powdered wigs could coexist with racing patches and it would feel intentional.
Jeremy Scott understands that fashion can be serious without taking itself too seriously.
Moschino Menswear S/S 2016 was not about restraint. It was about joy. About exaggeration. About turning the runway into a high speed, high drama performance.
I loved it.
