Invented the Boho Businessman
Versace Spring Summer 2016 in Milan asked a question no one else dared to. What if your corporate overlord summered in Ibiza and refused to tone it down? The answer was a collection that mixed sharp business suits with the kind of drama only Versace can deliver. Delightfully gaudy. Slightly unhinged. Completely committed.
This was not quiet luxury. This was loud liquidity.
Power Suits With a Pulse
The tailoring came first. Strong suits, crisp shirts, trousers cut with precision. On paper, it sounded conservative. On the runway, it was anything but. Donatella injected that unmistakable Versace voltage into every look.
Silk shirts unbuttoned just enough. Prints that shimmered under the lights. Colors that refused to blend into a boardroom wall. The classic businessman silhouette was there, but it had clearly been on holiday. Possibly several.
Head Wraps and Handbags, Obviously
Then came the accessories. Head wraps styled with confidence, adding a bohemian undertone to otherwise structured ensembles. It should not have worked. It absolutely did.
Bags were front and center, swinging from hands like status symbols with personality. Not shy briefcases. Statement pieces. The kind that announce your arrival before you say a word.
There was a rhythm to it all. Formal, then flamboyant. Structured, then fluid. Versace understands tension and plays with it beautifully.
Bright Casual Moments
When the collection leaned casual, it leaned all the way. Bright, standout looks that felt sun drenched and unapologetic. Prints, color, and texture layered together with that signature Italian confidence.
The vibe could only be described as businessmen boho. A man who closes deals in the morning and dances barefoot by sunset. It sounds absurd. It looked incredible.
Why It Worked
Versace S/S 2016 succeeded because it never half committed. The drama was intentional. The tailoring was sharp enough to anchor the extravagance. And Donatella knew exactly how far to push before it tipped into parody.
This was menswear that celebrated excess without losing structure. Corporate codes rewritten with a silk scarf and a smirk.
The overall mood was clear. Boardroom by day, Riviera by night, always very Versace.
