DSquared2 Spring Summer 2016 in Milan felt like a frat house surfer who discovered electronic dance music festivals and never fully came back. Sunburnt. Slightly chaotic. Bright, sweaty, and layered in contradiction.
It was messy on purpose.
Festival Surfer Energy
The collection mixed beach culture with rave attitude. Wetsuits layered under shorts. Sleeveless tops paired with oversized outerwear. Coats thrown over barely there pieces as if the night never ended and the morning sun hit too fast.
There was a deliberate “dirty” finish to the styling. Tousled hair. Sun kissed skin. Looks that felt lived in rather than pristine.
Palm tree prints dominated, reinforcing the tropical party narrative. Patterns were bold and unapologetic, splashed across shirts, shorts, and layered pieces without subtlety.
Bright, Brash, and Tattooed
What truly stood out were the bright colors and tattoo body garments. Neon accents cut through darker tones. Graphic, skin tight tattoo prints gave the illusion of fully inked torsos and arms, adding edge and humor.
The contrast between surf wear, festival layering, and tailored elements created tension. It was chaotic but cohesive within the DSquared2 universe.
The collection did not aim for refinement. It aimed for impact.
Why It Worked
Because DSquared2 understands character. The brand thrives on exaggeration and storytelling. This season delivered a specific persona and committed to it fully.
The layering felt excessive in the best way. The prints were loud. The attitude unapologetic. It captured a certain reckless summer energy and amplified it for the runway.
DSquared2 Menswear S/S 2016 was not about subtlety. It was about sun, sweat, and spectacle.
