Get ready for the arrival of the new generation of Mean Girls! Paramount has just dropped the highly-anticipated first trailer for the movie musical reimagining of this iconic teen comedy.
This cinematic endeavor, directed by Arturo Perez Jr. and Samantha Jayne, has been in the works since it was first announced in January 2020 by Tina Fey, who is not only the brains behind the original film but also penned the musical adaptation. The official cast list was unveiled in December 2022, and it’s filled with fresh talent ready to bring this classic story to life.
Based on the 2004 film and the subsequent 2018 Broadway musical of the same name, Mean Girls features a dynamic cast, with Angourie Rice taking on the role of Cady, Renée Rapp reprising her Broadway character Regina, Auli’i Cravalho as Janis, Jaquel Spivey as Damian, Anantika as Karen, and Bebe Wood as Gretchen.
But the excitement doesn’t stop there! Tina Fey herself will be back on the screen, playing the iconic character Ms. Norbury, alongside Tim Meadows as Principal Duvall, harking back to their original movie roles. Joining the ensemble, Jenna Fischer from The Office takes on the role of Cady’s mother, while Busy Philipps steps in as Mrs. George, the epitome of a “cool mom.” And watch out for Jon Hamm, making a special appearance as Coach Carr.
What’s even more tantalizing is the buzz about potential appearances from the original Mean Girls cast, including Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert. According to Seyfried, the gang is “100% into” making a cameo, adding to the legacy of Mean Girls. So, stay tuned for this exciting new take on the beloved high school comedy that captured the hearts of a generation.
