In Carry It With You, artist J. Carino paints a queer epic stitched together from fire, flood, and open sky. Born in Littleton, Colorado and now based in Riverside, California, Carino blends the terrains of both places into sweeping narratives where queer people take center stage in a reimagined American myth.
The work moves from pastoral dreamscapes to apocalyptic turns, touching on climate anxiety and the political threats facing LGBTQ communities. But rather than dwell in fear, Carino flips the script—focusing on queer joy, resilience, and the power to imagine something better.
Part personal, part environmental, and fully radical in its tenderness, Carry It With You is Carino’s solo debut with Yossi Milo Gallery in New York. The show runs from June 26 through July 25.
