Archie Madekwe Steps Into His Own Spotlight by Álvaro Beamud Cortés

Archie Madekwe isn’t here to just ride the wave of fame—he’s learning how to build the whole ocean. For the 55th issue of VMAN Magazine, the British actor, photographed by Álvaro Beamud Cortés, radiates in a series of images that play with light, texture, and a quiet but magnetic intensity. Styled by Martí Serra, Madekwe leans into high fashion with a confidence that feels earned, not borrowed.

This moment feels particularly charged because it arrives on the heels of Lurker, his most daring project yet. Known for Gran TurismoSaltburn, and Ari Aster’s Midsommar, Madekwe now steps into new territory, not just as a leading man but as a producer. Lurker, directed by Alex Russell, is a compact and thrilling film that’s equal parts devastating and funny, with Madekwe starring as Oliver, a rising pop star caught in the undertow of obsession. Opposite him is Théodore Pellerin, whose raw performance locks perfectly with Madekwe’s, creating the kind of on-screen tension you can’t look away from.

And because Madekwe seems allergic to half-measures, Lurker isn’t just a film, it’s also birthing music of its own. Zack Fox, who appears in the movie and also happens to be a musician with his own cult following, collaborated with Madekwe and producer Kenny Beats on an EP born from the film’s diegesis. Yes, you read that right: Archie Madekwe is singing. “It was terrifying and exhilarating all at once,” he admitted in a recent conversation with Fox, which was less a Q&A and more two artists riffing, laughing, and gassing each other up.

The editorial itself mirrors that same duality. In Álvaro Beamud Cortés’ lens, Madekwe slips easily between structured tailoring and fluid shapes, a reminder that he’s equally at home in a Prada suit as he is in the unpolished grit of an indie film set. It’s a portrait of an actor in transition, hungry, playful, and fully aware that his career is at an inflection point.

Archie Madekwe is no longer the guy you recognize from that movie. He’s the guy you’re about to see everywhere.
