Timothée Chalamet has always carried an aura that feels part indie film prodigy and part Old Hollywood matinee idol. Now, that blend of delicacy and intensity has landed him as the face of Chanel’s newest fragrance launch, Bleu de Chanel L’Exclusif. Created by master perfumer Olivier Polge, the scent introduces a darker, more intense chapter for the house’s signature men’s fragrance line.
Polge designed L’Exclusif with the density of an extrait, making it richer and more lasting than previous iterations. At the heart of the composition is sandalwood, known for its warmth and creamy texture, layered with labdanum, a resin that introduces leather-tinged depth. Amber and woody accents ground the fragrance with a sophistication that feels both modern and timeless. The result is a scent that doesn’t just sit on the skin, it builds presence around the wearer, commanding attention without ever shouting.
Chanel’s sourcing tells its own story. The sandalwood used in this formula comes from the island of Maré in New Caledonia. There, Chanel maintains an exclusive and sustainable supply chain. Local communities harvest only the heartwood, the most precious part of the tree, which is packed with essential oils. Through a proprietary extraction process, this raw material becomes an ingredient reserved exclusively for Chanel fragrances. It is a process rooted in both environmental care and creative precision, echoing the maison’s philosophy of luxury with integrity.

The bottle mirrors the fragrance’s ambition. Squared, balanced, and sharp in line, its design speaks to restraint and clarity. Depending on the light, the glass moves between deep blue and soft black, a shifting spectrum that suggests mystery and infinity. Much like Chalamet himself, it feels elusive, mercurial, and impossible to pin down, which may be why Chanel chose him as the face of its next era.
