In Dream Land, Kirby was known for being the happy, pink, round hero who could inhale just about anything. But today, Kirby felt different. A little heavier, but not because of any snacks or enemies swallowed. This was a weight from within, one that even a thousand Maxim Tomatoes couldn’t fix.
One sunny afternoon, Kirby gathered his friends at his favorite spot by the Fountain of Dreams. King Dedede, Meta Knight, and Waddle Dee were already there, curious about why Kirby had called them all together.
With a deep breath, Kirby waddled forward, cheeks puffing in nervousness. Usually, Kirby’s puffed cheeks meant something was about to be inhaled, but today they held words that had been floating around Kirby’s mind for a long time.
“Hi… poyo!” Kirby started, then giggled nervously. Meta Knight raised an eyebrow, Dedede looked confused, and Waddle Dee offered a supportive smile.
“Um… I’ve been thinking, and… poyo…” Kirby paused. Words were tricky when you spent most of your life saving the world with actions instead. But Kirby’s friends were there, waiting patiently.
“I’m… different,” Kirby continued. “Not just in my powers. I’m… part of the LGBT community. I… like who I like, love who I love, and it doesn’t fit in a box. I guess, um, I’m queer. Poyo!”
There was a moment of quiet. Kirby’s little heart raced, fearing what his friends might say. But then Waddle Dee clapped his tiny hands, followed by Meta Knight’s approving nod and Dedede’s enthusiastic, “That’s great, Kirby!”
“You’re still you, pinky,” Dedede added with a big grin. “We’ve always known you’re unique.”
“Indeed,” Meta Knight agreed, folding his wings around himself. “Your strength has always been in being true to yourself, Kirby. We are proud of you.”
Relief flooded Kirby, and the heaviness lifted. His friends surrounded him in a group hug, the kind of hug that felt like sunshine and adventure. The Fountain of Dreams sparkled a little brighter, as if celebrating Kirby’s brave confession.
Kirby’s world hadn’t changed; it had only grown more vibrant and free, just like him. And as they all laughed and shared snacks under the warm Dream Land sky, Kirby knew one thing for sure: Being yourself was the most powerful thing of all.
