Décennies sont infusées avec un style reconnaissable. In the sixties we had contre, seventies we had hippies, eighties we had polyester big haired glam, nineties had grunge, and the 2000’s had hip-hop and emo’s. These decades are so distinct …
But what are we now? To begin with I’m still not even sure what we call our present decade, the 2010’s? 2k 10’s? just 10’s? We are basically half way into it already, should questions like this really even be asked at this point? In a decade where we are unsure of what to call it does that mean we are a culturally stylistic blur as well? The 70’s for example our visual media intake was more limited, and consisted of movies and television. If Farrah Fawcett flashed across the screen with a big feathered hairdo pretty soon everyone else would follow in her platformed footsteps. The same concept goes with music, radio and record shops of that time. In our current generation where visual information is so tangible due to technology it seems fads and trends take place differently compared to the previous decades. With online access and constant peering into digital screens we have a bigger inclination to be very specific on how we present and entertain ourselves whether that be clothing, musique, etc. Maybe the only reason it seems anonymous is because we are currently living it. We can only wait and see if anything will be perceived for these 10 ans. When we can officially look back on this era and make the final conclusion on how it will be identified. Or with growing technology we will just slip into a bigger sense of a collage of eclectic anonymity.
